Wheelchairs

HHIM brings people in need together with people who wish to help. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell who benefits more!

Throughout the U.S., HHIM receives donations of new and used wheelchairs, wheelchair parts, raw materials, financial support and other items.

Hundreds of volunteers in the U.S. and other nations make international outreach possible by donating their time, talents and resources. They collect, clean, repair and box donated wheelchairs and other equipment. In addition, volunteers assist in record keeping, load and unload trucks for pick-up and delivery, and drive all over the country to make pick-ups. They are also involved in the manufacturing of wheelchairs.

In addition to volunteers, HHIM works with 60 inmates at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and people with disabilities in Guatemala at Refugio de Esperanza, who help manufacture wheelchairs.

Wheelchairs must be transported and then fitted to each recipient. Physical therapists and rehabilitation specialists are frequently involved. Others travel to wheelchair distribution sites to tend to additional needs.

Wheelchairs are given to people in desperate need in developing nations, and not distributed in the United States. They are a small gift that make a life changing impact for the recipients, their families, and even entire communities.

This gift of mobility can be sponsored for $100 (refurbished wheelchair) or $200 HHIM KidChair. Click "Donate" to contribute.
